I am a Ugandan citizen who happens to love her country but I have to confess, I am loving it less each passing day.
It has been a week and three days since twin bombs went off in Kampala killing at least 76 people, majority of whom were youth.

People have since been traumatised, living in panic and calling every suspicious looking metal or bag a bomb! As we were still dealing with the after effects of the bomb and drooling over the muscular FBI agents that jetted in recently, then came the African Union Summit.

Saturday morning started just like an ordinary day, never mind that i only slept for less than four hours.

Yes, i was out and about on Friday night drinking and eating as we toasted to a birthday boy who had turned 31.

In the morning, after a good long shower and an hour of comedy on TV, i thought i could pop some corn for breakfast.

Little did i know that it would disobey and refuse to pop. Was it me? I hoped not. Was the corn bad? Probably (but then, my younger cousin tried it later and they popped).

So, it is 2010. Not that i just realised that almost three months down the year. This feels like the year i have been waiting for. I am anticipating only good stuff but still- i know bad stuff will happen. How i will deal with it, is another issue of its own.

What have i been up to?

Lots of work! What do you do when you get a great job with the weirdest working hours? 8am to 9pm- yes, it sounds ridiculous. Some have no sympathy for me! “You are not married, you got no kids, stop complaining!” they say. Should i just shush and let it be?

One, two, three, four, five, six men. One woman.

Recently I was attending one of our usual meetings at the office  and noticed that i was just the only woman that day seated in the midst of six men.  The previous week had had a day dedicated to women- Women’s Day-  March 8.
